Presenting The Numerous Iconic Vintage Jewelry Eras of All Period

    Georgian Era

The Georgian era spanned from 1714 to 1835 and composed the reign of four kings of England. This era was strongly inspired by 17th-century French culture, with the regality, grand designs, and large colored gemstones creating breathtaking pieces. At this point, fine jewelry was worn exclusively by the upper classes.

Of course, the Georgian era was long before mass production, so the amount of craftsmanship and care that went into creating these decadent pieces is simply unparalleled in modern pieces. Everything was created by hand and had very recognizable features, namely floral and ribbon-like motifs, and closed-back gemstone settings. Memorial-style brooches were also common. In terms of the gemstones, cabochon and teardrop cuts were exceptionally popular, with rubies and pearls commonly being paired together.

The Georgian jewelry era paved the way for the exciting and innovative vintage jewelry eras that followed.

    Art Deco

Perhaps the most iconic era of all time for vintage jewelry is Art Deco. This movement encompasses the 1920’s and 30’s, the time between the world wars. Following the first world war, there was a wave of positivity and an anti-traditional elegance that heavily influenced jewelry from this time. Also, the style of Art Deco jewelry was borrowed heavily from architecture, featuring bold patterns, sharp lines, clear-cut shapes, and intricate details that made each piece of carefully crafted Art Deco jewelry spectacular.

It is common to see emerald and step-cut gemstones in a cluster design with smaller, tightly packed gemstones to create incredible pieces, particularly art deco engagement rings

Sapphires and emeralds dominated jewelry from this era, as well as flawless diamonds that are simply timeless.

The iconic nature of this era means that these stunning pieces continue to circulate and be worn and appreciated all over the world. Quite simply, art deco jewelry becomes the centerpiece of any outfit and jewelry collection for all the right reasons.

    Retro

Last but not least, the retro jewelry era spanning the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s with common themes of femininity. During this time, precious metals and gemstones were in short supply as vintage jewelry was no longer reserved for the very richest people, but a much wider group within society. Despite this, the quality of retro jewelry was certainly not compromised.

With a futuristic appeal to each piece, settings tended to be heavier and larger, moving away from the flatter style seen during the Art Deco era. Rounded shapes overtook the more clear cut lines and sharpness of Art Deco, offering a fresh perspective to the world of vintage jewelry that has remained exceptionally popular through to the 21st century. Vintage earrings and cocktail rings dominated, with these beautiful pieces continuing to circulate.

    Final Thoughts

Each of these amazing jewelry eras has something unique to offer, continuing to retain their value and increase in popularity. There is something so special about contributing to a piece of jewelry’s history, which is evidenced in the ongoing popularity of vintage jewelry.
