Finding The Right Golf Outfit: Socks to Cap

It is no secret that when you show up at a golf course, certain attire is not only expected but also required. Each course has its own rules and regulations, so before heading out make sure you check with the club on what is acceptable. Your attire should have a serious, professional look. Since so much business is done on the course, the dress code should reflect that environment. Avoid any crazy patterns or colors that distract from the game itself.

Finding The Right Golf Outfit: Socks to Cap

While the dress code for many courses and clubs is relaxing, there is still an expectation to uphold a clean, professional look while golfing. The attire is only part of it. You should have a clean, hygienic look when on the links. Clothes, hair, and overall look should be clean and tidy. Your outfit should match with light or discreet colors.

    Socks

This may be the most essential part of your outfit. Although there are no club regulations on what types of socks are allowed on the course, the quality of the socks can make your day on the green more or less enjoyable. When looking for a quality pair of socks for your golf day, you want to make sure they have moisture-wicking properties. Swampy feet do not make for a good time on the links. Your socks should provide temperature control so that your feet say cool in the warm weather and warm when there is a nip in the air.

The fashion of the socks doesn’t matter, but they should match the rest of your outfit. I prefer the classic look of white or black socks, but some courses require white socks. You could go towards the iconic argyle print, but if you bring back that bold look, it is better to back it up with a stylish bold outfit. Finding the best golf socks isn’t too tricky. Check the reviews of your socks options before you make a decision. You want to find a pair of socks that protects your feet, cushions them from blisters and upholds the style of the course. Most courses don’t care about length, but some still require long socks, so checking with your club first is important.

    Shoes

It's no secret that what you put on your feet is going to directly impact your golf game. Not only should your shoes provide you stability in your swing, grip on the green, and comfortability in walking the course, they should keep your feet dry and supported. You have two types of sole options for your golfing shoes.

Spiked: Spiked soles will give you the most traction during your swing and stability in the upper shoe. Spiked is a classic look for golfers, but with newer technology, it isn’t the only way to get traction on the green. Spiked shoes typically have more waterproofing than street-style shoes but they also tend to weigh a bit more.

Spike-less: Spike-less or street-style shoes are becoming more popular. The soles have rubber studs to provide the grip on the grass, but a flatter sole for walking on other surfaces. These shoes provide a more comfortable commute around the course. They also tend to be lightweight.

No matter what shoe sole you choose, pick a shoe that is comfortable and gives you the grip you need. Trying on a few options is a great way to find the one that fits the aesthetic you want without compromising the performance of the shoe. Most clubs and courses require closed-toe shoes but don't have more requirements than that. Tennis shoes are an acceptable option if you're not wanting to purchase golf-specific shoes. Pants

Most clubs have strict requirements on what pants are acceptable. The majority of the courses require slacks, khakis, or golf pants. Jeans, leggings, and sports apparel are not allowed. Belts are usually recommended. Pants, shorts, or skirts of these materials are allowed; however, they should be an appropriate length. Shorts and skirts should fall to just above the knee, not too tight, and also accompanied by a belt.

Pants should be made of breathable, flexible material. It shouldn’t be too heavy or restricting in your movements. Golf-specific pants are made to move with you and keep your body at an optimal temperature. Pants should be a solid, light khaki, white, black, or tan color.

    Shirts

Most courses have a strict policy on what shirts are allowed on their course and in their clubs. A collared shirt is required at nearly every course. Polo shirts are recommended for their breathability and comfort. Shirts are typically required to be tucked in. Even if you aren’t sure, tucking in your shirt is a good rule of thumb when golfing. If it's a chillier day, you can don a sweater, vest, or windbreaker. It is acceptable for women to wear a sleeveless shirt as long as the shirt has a collar.

    Accessories

Accessorizing your outfit is a necessary part of golfing. Since most golfing is done under the hot sun, a hat is a great way to keep the sun off of your face. Baseball hats and visors are great options. Avoid bucket hats, trucker hats, and beanies. Your hat should be worn facing forward, with the bill over your face. You might also find yourself needing sunglasses, this is fine. Find a nice, well-fitting polarized pair of sunglasses to keep the sun out of your eyes if needed.

When it comes to appropriate attire, your outfit should match, avoid any intense patterns or colors, and be well-fitting. The golf course requires a level of professionalism when you are out on the links. Following the rules and regulations of the course or club, you will be attending is necessary. If you do not follow their dress code, you may be asked to leave the course. Following the guidelines found here can help you avoid any embarrassing course faux pas.
