    Measure Your Room

    The first step before you would lay an underlay is to measure your room accurately. You can note down the measurements on a paper. First, create a rough diagram of your room. Whether your room is square or rectangle, just multiply the width by length and you will get the area for the underlay. Before multiplying add 100mm extra to each edge to be on the safer side. 

    If there are any door frames or trims, measure them till the back. Cross-check all the measurements twice. For the staircase, measure the height and depth of each step. To get the area of each step, multiply this by width.

    How to Fit Underlay for Laminate Flooring

    You can choose any type of underlay from the range available in the market as per your requirement. Now lay the underlay over the floor and trim as per your room size. If there are any pipes, leave 16mm gap. Install length parallel and using masking tape, stick it along the length of the joints. 

    How to Fit Carpet Underlayment for Vinyl Plank Flooring

    For carpet underlay, it's a good idea to use lining paper as it will protect your underlay. First spread the lining paper and using staple gun fix it. Stick the edges using spray adhesive. Now lay the underlay. Keep the rubber side down. Trim it using a knife. Lay rows of underlay, ensure not to overlap. Carpet tape can be used to join them. 

    Be careful to keep the underlay without any gap and straight. Staple it within the gripper along the edges. If it's direct concrete floor then use adhesive. Stick the joins using tape along the full length. Trim off extra underlay.

    How to Fit Underlay for Engineered Wood Flooring

    First, unroll the underlay. Lay lengths parallel and trim, next using masking tape stick them together. Repeat this step in the entire room. Ensure that you don't overlap the edges.
